1997 and 1996 Melberger Award Winner
Bill Borchert
Mount Union College - Ohio


The first two-time Melberger Award winner, Bill Borchert lead the Mount Union Purple Raiders to their second Division III championship in four years. A quarterback from North Royalton, Ohio, Borchert completed 250 of 374 pass attemps for 4,035 yards and 55 touchdowns during regular season and playoffs. In three years of varsity play, he accumulated 10,392 yards and 102 touchdowns. Named the 1996 First Team quarterback on the American Football Coaches Association All-American Team, Borchert led the Ohio Athletic Conference in total offense, passing yards, completions and completion percentage during the 1996 regular season.

After a brief time with the Cincinnati Bengals mini camp, Borchert now works in the banking industry. He sells computer hardware and software solutions to banks for ATV which is based in Cleveland.

Borchert is still actively pursuing opportunities to play football. He is currently looking at the CFL and NFL Europe.
