ELLIOTT NAMED MELBERGER AWARD WINNER

Chuck Moore - 2001 Melberger Award Winner
Brett Elliott, Linfield College's Senior Quarterback, has been named the 2005 winner of the Melberger Award as the top Division III Player in the Country. The Lake Oswego, Oregon native put up impressive statistics in his 2 years at Quarterback, setting the single season NCAA Division III record for passing yards in 2004, of 4,595, single season record for pass completion percentage in 2005 of 68.1%, set the Division III record for passing touchdowns of 61 in 2004 and most 300 yard passing games, 9, in 2005. The runners up were Justin Beaver of White Water, WI and Mitch Tanney of Monmouth, Il.

Elliott, a preseason All-America selection by D3football.com was also a consensus first team All-American in 2004 and while starring at Lake Oswego (Ore) High School, lettered nine times in football, basketball and tennis, was the Oregon Bowl all-star game MVP and Gatorade Player of the Year.

Chuck Moore - Action ShotBrett Elliott is a communication major, aiming for a career in sports broadcasting and spent last summer as an intern at KFXX Radio in Portland. He is the son of Dennis and Leila Elliott of Lake Oswego Oregon and has four brothers and one sister.

The Melberger Award is named in Honor of Clifford K. Melberger, Chairman of Diversified Information Technologies and Captain of the 1960 LAMBERT CUP winning Bucknell University Bisons of Pennsylvania.

The Melberger Trophy is a carving, out of pure Anthracite Coal, indigenous to Mr. Melberger's area of Northeastern Pennsylvania, representing and old-style leather football helmet designed by Ed Donohue as representative of neither offense nor defense but the dedication and determination of the Division III athlete.

The sculptor of the award is Frank Magdalinski of Plains, PA who has been carving from anthracite since 1966 and today is the only carver using this coal in the United States.

The award will be presented at Linfield College, in McMinnville, OR, during the 2005 Holiday Break. A scholarship award, in Brett Elliott's honor, will also be made, at that time, by a representative of Diversified Information Technologies, who sponsor the award, and 50% of the award will be designated for minority students.
